Charles is a native of central Pennsylvania, where he grew up on a 50-acre
farm. His passion for plants
developed at an early age, as a result of working on his family’s unusually
large vegetable garden. After
graduation from Ithaca College in the Finger Lakes region of New York, he
pursued a career in retail management. His
love of books and reading led to a management position with a national
bookselling company. Charles left
the book industry and returned to his passion for plants, and he has not looked
back. He has held positions as
greenhouse manager and plant buyer for successful and innovative garden centers
on the East Coast, and joined Gledhill as our Garden Center Manager in 2011.
His involvement with tropical plants at his previous job ignited a new
interest; Charles discovered orchids and became an orchid enthusiast!
After years of success, and a few failures, with various orchid species
he now has many rare and unusual specimens in his collection.
Charles holds a Master Gardener certificate from Lancaster County, PA,
and is a member of the Connecticut Orchid Society.
