Spring and Summer Pond Care by Water Temperature

Note: all temperature readings are in Fahrenheit

All temperature readings are for WATER temperature, not air temperature

 

45°   Begin feeding goldfish with a Spring/Autumn food

Raise any marginal plants you lowered for winter

Test pond water for ammonia, salt, nitrates and nitrites

Start pump (if shut off for winter)

50°   Begin feeding Koi with a Spring/Autumn food

55°   Start filter (if shut off)

Add beneficial bacteria

Add submerged/oxygenating plants

60°   Start feeding hardy plants monthly

65°   Add tropicals to pond (and begin feeding)

70°  Switch fish to a summer food

75°  Feed lilies and lotus every 2 weeks

85°  Supplement aeration with a bubbler pump or air stones if you have fish
